Light therapy in combination with HSR
Light therapy can indeed also stimulate hair growth.
Normally it should be fine with alternating green and yellow light, but you don't have green and yellow light.
Red light stimulates cellular life anyway, which includes hair follicles.
I don't know if you can programme the device in timing. Best then is 5 minutes of red, 30 sec of nothing, again 5 minutes of red, 30 sec of nothing, so up to 20 minutes of radiation. (Avoid other light during therapy (sun, artificial light). It interferes with the function of the light therapy.
Note the light source should not be too strong, around 60 to 120 joules per cm2.
I don't know if you have an indication of the light source. If not, it might be good to know the brand of the device.
Otherwise, you can also calculate joules per cm2 as it is an easy formula:
mW x time in sec x distance in cm x 0.001 = joules per cm2. (mW = milli Watts)
example: a 200-watt lamp per m2 = 20 mW per cm2
20mW/ cm2 x 300 sec x 25 cm x 0.001 = 150 joules per cm2 which is the maximum you can use for collagen stimulation, higher than 200 joules per cm2 will start the denaturation of collagen. The process of growing collagen and hair keratin is, simplified, similar.
In this case, it would have to increase the distance or shorten the time to get closer to 100 joules per cm2.
You can use the blue light for people with dandruff. It will act on the bacterial population on the scalp by hitting the bacterial membrane with free radical activity.
Dr Gladys Lodoño, a reference in LED therapy, provided the following answers:
She tried our lotions with LED devices and concluded that she had great results with the configuration below.
However, I will first briefly answer her questions.
1. When should you apply the lotion?
According to Dr Lodoño, it is best to apply the lotions (both) after treatment with light.
2. Which lotion works best with LED light?
Both are designed for use without LED, but it is good to stimulate the follicle cells before application, which should increase the absorption of the active ingredients due to enhanced cellular activity.
3. Frequency to do treatment
The telogen phase can last up to 3 months.
During the telogen phase, there is not only the shedding of (dead) hair but also the beginning of the early anagen phase at the end of the telogen phase. During this period, progenitor cells in the dermal papilla will mix with secondary stem cells from the bulge just below the sebaceous gland. As a result, the new anagen phase begins and a new hair is formed. The dermal papilla then sinks back to a lower skin level.
So I would say: Week 1: 2 sessions Week 2: 2 sessions Week 3: 1 sessions Week 4: 1 sessions Week 5: 1 sessions Week 6: 1 sessions Eventually etc. | ![]() |
Keep in mind that it is important for clients to continue the treatment at home by using the day lotion in the morning and the night lotion at night.
Below now is Dr Ladys Lodoño's protocol
1. Yellow light for 3 minutes + 30 seconds scalp massage
2. Green light for 2 minutes + 30 seconds scalp massage
3. Yellow light for 2 minutes + 30 seconds scalp massage
4. Green light for 3 minutes.
If you don't have yellow/green light in your LED device.
However, you can also use red and violet
1. Red light 3 min
2. Purple 2 minutes
3. Red light 3 minutes
4. Violet 2 minutes.
In case the scalp has dandruff problem, you can use blue light as it will disrupt the microflora.
In this case, I can proceed as follows.
1 Blue 2 min
2 red 3 minutes
3 purple 3 minutes
As I am not aware of the power density of your light source, I cannot calculate the distance nor the exact timing of the light sessions.
After a full session, you should reach about 60 to 70 d/cm2.
If you know the light density of your device in mW / cm2, you can mutiply on time in seconds x 0.001 to get the dose in J / cm2.
It is important not to exceed 60 to 70 j/cm2, as higher doses can produce an undesirable effect.
