Roaccutan medication

I have a client with bad acne on roaccutan medication, she used Stratum Symbiosum® and her skin has become dry and flaky. What should I do?

The active ingredient in the medicated product Roacccutane is a Vitamin A (Retinol) based ingredient called Isotretinoïne.   Side effects of istretinoïne are well known as:
•    Dry lips
•    Dry eyes
•    Dry flaky skin
•    Dry nose
•    Extreme sensitivity to sunshine.
And also but less significant
•    Contra indication for pregnancy
•    Pain in the muscles
•    Liver disfunction (forbidden to drink any alcohol during the entire cure)
•    Depression
•    Tiredness
Besides all this isotretinoïne remains working 2 month after complete stop of the treatment. This means that it is important that people wait 2 months after stop till they do a different or a repeat application!

If we look now to the products of « Stratum Symbiosum® »
First of all, I would say that it does not make sense to use Stratum Symbiosum® products together with a treatment with isotretinoïne and this up to 2 months after the intake of Isotretinoïne has been stopped.
The reason is that Isotretinoïne is used to slow down sebum production and it also counteracts the activity of C Acnes bacterium.  As you remember the goal is to create a balance between micro-organisms without killing micro-organisms or adding micro-organisms.

Besides we should understand that:
The prebiotic cleanser does contain some White Willow Bark extract which enhances keratolytic exfoliation which might mean an overkill together with isotretinoïne.  It also contains heat treated rice starch which is an absorbent to sebum and dirt.  Together with Isotretinoïne it might again mean an overkill as with isotretinoïne the sebum production (oil production) has been significantly blocked.
So it is better not to use the Prebiotic cleanser but use our Pure active cleanser instead.

The prebiotic pore refiner serum contains Retinoyl Hyaluronate. Again here the small amount of Retinoyl might mean an overkill to isotretinoïne.  So better to avoid this.
With regard to the Prebiotic multi-layer cream, I think there is no reason to blame this product for dryness I rather would look to the activity of isotretinoïne.

Now for your customer, I would recommend:
1.    Cleanse with Pure active cleanser (don’t use soaps or any other surfactant rich product)
2.    Use Prebiotic Agave Toner
3.    Use Vitamin D serum morning and evening.
If the situation improves, she can add Prebiotic multi-layer cream the one which feels best for her skin.
She can start implementing the full treatment procedure 2 months after she stopped using Roaccuttan with Isotretinoïne.
